Our Values

WE recognize this work is not “charity” (which often disempowers those on the receiving end and is rooted in white supremacy) but rather a systematic program rooted in justicia and building solidaridad in recognition of our shared humanidad.

WE recognize class privilege and the role it plays on this side of the distribution. Powerful Immigrants against all odds surmount huge obstacles to cobble together food distributions in order to feed their families. We go to grocery stores.

WE (literally) walk intentionally in predominantly Latinx spaces in a way that builds relationships and trust. We follow the family’s lead in comunicación, nunca our own.

WE understand our food systems are inherently racialized so that Black and Brown people experience food apartheid and inseguridad at disproportionately higher rates. Food apartheid recognizes that los sistemas in place make it difficult for people living in low-income areas to access fresh, healthy food.

WE have a ‘by any means necessary’ philosophy
and deliver comida even when their phone is not working since that may mean they needed the food yesterday.

WE endeavor to create a multi-lingual space
where no idioma dominates and everyone engages in the alegría y lucha, adjusting and fitting.

WE apply an eco-lens to reduce our footprint & safeguard el planeta. Six million people worldwide already have been ejected from their homes, unable to make a living due to drought, earthquakes, hurricanes y mas. By 2050 the climate crisis is expected to dislodge dos millón personas more alone from Central America.

WE prioritize centering affected personas in our leadership in order to disrupt the racist, hetero-patriarchy systems of poder that create these crises in the first place.

WE recognize that food access is just one of a myriad of issues that confront immigrant, Black and Brown families
in an inequitable world and endeavor to support the enteras humanas.
