We are Food Justice DMV… an all volunteer collective standing with thousands of immigrant neighbors throughout the DMV.
BEWARE — Your corazón 🧡 may be realigned.
Muchos volunteers become regulars. Those most impacted by Covid are no longer an abstraction or the other but the child who ran out and giggled as they helped their parent with the comida.
200 people can now add food delivery to their resumé and 50 plus volunteers keep our wheels turning.
“Kirsten brought groceries and a big beautiful birthday cake so that a 2 year-old would know that all days are not the same.”
“We had never delivered comida to a 10 year-old before. She was taking care of her six month-old hermana because her madre had Covid. Her mother contacted us because she did not want to infect her children and asked us to bring food easy for 10 year olds to make, taquitos, mac and queso, fruta, etc.”
Sign up for a volunteer opportunity below — including one that can be done without a car or de la casa.
We 100% wear masks, keep physically distanced and limit the number of volunteers in any indoor space. Español is a plus, but not required. We provide sample messages y teléfono support. Volunteers do deliveries by neighborhood to save time and reduce vehicle emissions. The typical delivery takes a total of 2 to 3 horas from the time you pick up the family’s goodies to the time you complete your last delivery.

Intake Daily Checker: Food Justice DMV needs a volunteer role for the intake system that is the heart and engine of the organization. The role ensures that Latine migrant families who request food receive it. Checking intake is virtual and takes about 20 minutes each day that you are assigned. The role involves makes sure that Google Voice has been answered, raw data intake list has been moved to intake waitlist and that there are no double entries. You are supervised and supported in a very friendly environment. Requires some Spanish but we can help.
Social Media: Our Spanish-speaking Facebook page Justicia Alimentaria DMV needs someone to create eco-posts, survey impacted communities, create posts that address current needs, such as rent support and food distribution. Spanish required. Other English language social media support is welcome.
Fundraising Volunteers: We have an incredible need for funds. 100% of our funds goes directly to the families. We spend thousands weekly on diapers alone. Food insecurity and fundraising your twin passions? Join us!
